Due to the COVID-19 governmental recommendations, staff will be working remotely until further notice. Although the Board will not be taking phone calls at this time, we are still available to assist you. Please email any inquiries to [email protected] Inquiries will be responded to as quickly as possible. Please note, the Board is assisted by one staff person at this time so your patience and understanding are appreciated. Please review the forms and information on the website prior to emailing the Board if you have questions about licensure in NC.

  • The physical office remains closed. No visitors or materials drop-off at this time.
  • All forms and applications must be submitted electronically. Those forms that are still submitted via PDF can be downloaded, completed, scanned, and uploaded on the Forms page. The current, interim website, will be replaced with a new website by early 2021, including a portal (account log-in) for each licensee and/or applicant.

This website is the primary resource for information about North Carolina Marriage & Family Therapy Licensure. You are encouraged to review information on the website prior to contacting the Board for information about licensure, renewals, incorporation certificates, licensure status verification, submission of ethical complaints, etc.

All materials, including applications should be submitted via email as a scanned .pdf or via fax. All fees should be paid online, checks and money orders are not accepted. Staff is working remotely due to the Covid-19 impact. Therefore, any mailed materials may be incur a significant delay.

Code of Ethics

The Administrative Code supplements the General Statutes for the North Carolina Marriage & Family Therapy Licensure Board. It outlines continuning education requirements, fees, and more.

North Carolina Association of Marriage & Family Therapy

NCAMFT is the professional organization for marriage and family therapists in North Carolina. Their job is to promote and advance the profession across the state.

 

American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy

AAMFT is the national association for the profession, and is the parent organization for NCAMFT. They work to advocate for the profession across the nation, and provide journals, magazines, conferences, and more to keep professionals up-to-date.

 

Association of Marital & Family Therapy Regulatory Boards

The AMFTRB sponsors collaboration amongst the boards and groups who carry out licensure statutes, along with developing compatible standards.

 

Professional Testing Corporation

The PTC is in charge of administering the licensure exam for the profession in most states.
