The North Carolina Marriage & Family Therapy Licensure Board makes all efforts to provide all information that applicants, licensees, and the public need here on the website.
The Board prefers electronic communication, such as email, as much as possible, to make it easier and faster to be of service to you.
Please know that the office is not open to drop-in visitors (other than those hand-delivering materials to the receptionist desk). EFFECTIVE MARCH 25, 2020, THE PHYSICAL OFFICE IS CLOSED, NO VISITORS OR MATERIALS DROP-OFF. Please note: the receptionists are not Board staff and cannot answer questions about the licensure process) for individual consultation about an application. Public comments about issues relative to MFT licensure are welcomed at board meetings, held throughout the year. If you wish to attend a meeting and would like to make a presentation or comment to the Board, please let us know using the form below (select “Other”). We can add you to the meeting agenda. You will receive information as to date, time and location. In lieu of attending a meeting, you may also submit a written presentation/request for the Board’s consideration. Please note: applicants for licensure are reviewed in closed session (approved in open session, not identified by name) and the Board review is not a forum for an applicant to address the Board about their application. If an application reviewed by the Board is subsequently deferred or denied, the applicant is afforded an opportunity to submit additional clarifying information or appeal the decision if the matter cannot be resolved. Applicants who submit complete, clear and concise applications with the required documentation who meet the stated requirements for education, exam, and experience generally do not encounter difficulties with achieving licensure.
