Effective October 1, 2025 | Background checks will be required for all new license applications Read More

All new license applications (LMFTA, LMFT and LMFT-Reciprocal) will require a criminal background check. (This is not retroactive, if you have a license application started prior to October 1, 2025 you will not be required to undergo the background check). This information takes 4-6 weeks to be reported to the NCMFTLB --Please keep this timeline in mind when applying for a license. This does not apply to current LMFTA-Associates who have earned their hours for LMFT licensure.
Complete applications will still be reviewed by the board on the 5th and 20th of each month, however this must include the background check.
